Arrow Senior Living Recognizes National Assisted Living Week

Category: Assisted Living

Author: Justin Ladd, VP of Operations & Kayla Barlow, VP of Resident Experience

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.

This year, Arrow Senior Living is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.

Leading in a senior living community is all about building relationships and creating experiences for residents, their support system, and team members. No two days are the same and that is what keeps leaders of senior living communities on their toes daily and often is cited as the reason they stay in the profession. At the end of the day, knowing that you are helping create peace of mind for a resident or their support system is such a rewarding feeling. And if you have considered a career in senior housing, Arrow Senior Living would love to talk with you about opportunities we have available!

The following are ways our team creates “joyful moments” on a regular basis in our communities:

1. Traditions allow us to recognize and educate on different cultures within our communities.

This is a great educational opportunity for our residents and our team members!

2. Happy Hours (A resident favorite!)

3. Living in a community allows residents companionships they wouldn’t have if living alone.

4. Community outings – always have a friend to enjoy the outing with you.

5. Supporting residents’ interests and hobbies through the monthly calendar.

6. Volunteer program: allowing residents to give back by creating a sense of purpose.

National Assisted Living Week will be a special time in each of our communities. Each department gets involved to host special events that allow them to show off their idea of “joyful moments.” This allows them the opportunity to create unique experiences they might not typically get the chance to use throughout the year. Grandparent Day Sunday Brunch, Happy Hours, Watermelon Eating Contests, Dunk Tanks, and Outdoor Cookouts with Games are just a few of the planned events for this year’s National Assisted Living Week.

Follow us on Facebook to witness all our joyful moments, but especially from September 11th to September 17th as each department celebrates National Assisted Living Week and the many ways each team brings joy to our community staff and residents!
